Michelle Maland

Michelle earned her Bachelor of Art degree from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and her master’s degree in architecture from UW-Milwaukee. Michelle has always loved drawing buildings; she knew from a young age that she was meant to be an architect. She has 14 years of design experience – 13 of those with HSR. In 2023, Michelle became the first woman to serve as a Director on HSR’s Board of Directors. Michelle is involved in the design of many projects including those in the K-12 and higher education, healthcare, and religious market sectors. Working in multiple markets allows Michelle to bring aspects of each together as needed to create a cohesive and unique design for every project.

Michelle has continued to grow, learn and take on more responsibilities during her tenure with HSR. Michelle works hard to develop positive relationships with all her clients from the start. Building trust between an architect and client is important to a successful project. She can present her ideas as two-dimensional plans and three-dimensional renderings and believes the ability to allow a client to see and experience a space during the design process helps produce a more successful end project.

Michelle lives outside of West Salem with her husband and two children. They keep her grounded and provide a perfect balance to work. She also volunteers on the Property committee for the Salvation Army of La Crosse and joined the Advisory board a few years ago. She believes in the mission of the Salvation Army to help those in need achieve a better life. She offers her expertise in how to develop places and spaces that will aid in this process.
